Elly McCarthy, Regional Specialty
I grew up in Holland. So yes, I am originally Dutch. I came to the US as a teenager and quickly learned to speak English. As far back as I can remember I’ve had a love affair with dogs and horses. Clearly, I still do. After school (and a family) I joined the military. I worked in Medical Research, and Uncle Sam kindly sent me to Stanford to continue my studies in animal behavior… During those days some of the working dogs came back from Vietnam for medical care. I was privileged to work primarily with the dogs dealing with PTSD. I acquired my first Belgian, CH Paulmars Bright Dschubba CD, during the 70’s while in San Francisco.Through the years I attended European Nationals (almost yearly as I used it as an excuse to visit my European family). In Dec 2004 I applied to judge Rally Obedience and quickly hit the judging trials in Jan 2005. I was approved to judge all Belgians in 2009 and added Shelties and Juniors ..(and Laekenois). Thank you for inviting me to judge your wonderful dogs. I’m incredibly honored.

I acquired my first Belgian Malinois in 1998 as an obedience prospect which began my love of the Belgian breeds. Since then, under the kennel name of CF Phantom, our very small breeding program has produced 12 Malinois champions, one being a Best of Breed winner at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show. In 2014 we added a Belgian Laekenois from the prestigious Belgium Kennel of Catherine Purnelle; Hameau St-Blaise. Our dogs compete not only in conformation but in obedience, rally, scent work, tracking and herding. My husband and I have be club members since 1999. I currently hold the position of delegate to the AKC, breed mentor for Malinois and Judges Educator for Laekenois. It has been my honor privilege to have judged all four varieties of Belgians over the past few years and then again to be asked to judge sweeps at this year’s National.
Christine Nethery – Junior Showmanship
My family started showing English Springer Spaniels when I was 9 years old. I showed in Juniors until I aged out at 17, with Springers, Afghans and an Irish Setter. I even competed 2 times at the Westminster KC in Juniors! I was also a member of the AKC registered handlers program for 15 years, showing and finishing many breeds including Poodles, Briards and Malinois. I have bred BIS and National Specialty winning Standard Poodles for over 40+ years and I have been in Malinois for 10 years, having finished 5 to their AKC championships and having bred 2 litters!
