When growing up in Williamsburg, VA, my family always had a Collie or Sheltie. My Mother had a great idea to send one of the Collies, “Rocky”, to doggie “College” and he came back quite trained but that lasted for about a week! Since 1985 I have attempted to train Norwich Terriers. After my first CD, I was so traumatized, I stopped for 6 years. Then I heard about Canine Freestyle and thought my second Norwich, JT and I would give it a try. In our first recital, I thought we did a great job with freestyling to “Yellow Submarine” but don’t think the judges agreed. But in our second recital, JT and I placed first to the tune of “Yakety Sax” and had a ball. Thus, I was back into training again. Since then, I have earned Obedience (CD, CDX, UD, VER, and even earned an HIT), Agility (PACH, PAX, MJP, AXP and NFP), Rally (RACH, RAE2), CGC, Therapy and Trick titles. Several years ago, my Norwich, Zilly, earned a Rally RAE title which was the first Norwich to earn that title. I have been a member of Richmond Dog Obedience Club in Richmond, Virginia for over 30 years. There I have been in various classes, have taught dog obedience/rally classes, been trial secretary for many trials, and a member on the demo team where we visit various nursing homes and establishments. I am an AKC Rally judge and was honored to judge the Rally Nationals in Tulsa, OK. Through these activities and most important, the bonds with my dogs and relationships with so many wonderful friends are immeasurable. The fun continues with my youngest Norwich, Chip! Good Luck to everyone!

When growing up in Harrington, DE, my family had a Collie. I remember as a young kid going to a local farmer to pick out my first dog. My Collie was a female but as a young kid, I insisted that she be named Laddie. My Mom would feed and brush her but Laddie was my dog. Laddie would follow me everywhere even when I would ride my bike; what a great dog. While in graduate school, I had Miniature Schnauzers and even had one litter. One litter was enough. Since 1985 I have trained Norwich Terriers. We have earned CD, CDX, UD, MX and AXJ agility, and Rally titles. While working with my first Norwich in Utility, I remember what I thought was a very good run at a trial and getting a 169 1/2. I said to the Judge, “please give me a 1/2 point or take off another 30.” The Judge said “That is what you earned and that is what you will get.” Needless to say, I almost quit but did not and went on to get a UD. I have taught many levels of dog obedience and Rally at our local dog club, helped organize Obedience and Rally run throughs, supporting my wife as the trial secretary for our local club for their Rally and Obedience trials. Before Covid, my wife and I would take our Norwich to a local Nursing Home for therapy visits. The residents really loved our dogs. At this same Nursing Home, I would take my Norwich and call BINGO every Friday afternoon. (If I did not bring my Norwich the residents would not be happy). Every time before the next game I would say “Clear your cards and everybody plays”, my Norwich would put his paws on the arm of the chair indicating he wanted his treat NOW! All the residents would yell in unison, “Feed the Dog”! I am an AKC Rally Judge and an AKC Obedience Judge. I was honored to judge the Rally Nationals in Tulsa, OK and to judge the AKC Classic in Orlando, FL. I am currently having fun with my Norwich training Obedience and Tracking. Dogs are so much fun and during my training I say that “If it was easy, everybody would do it.” Good Luck to everyone!
